Most of what microneedling delivers happens after you leave. The session itself takes about an hour. The repair it sets off runs for weeks, and what you do in the first few days decides how much of that repair you actually keep.
This is the part clients ask about most and the part that gets the vaguest answers. So here is the real version, in order.
Expect your skin to look flushed, a little warm, and tighter than usual. That is the response working, not a problem. For most sessions it settles the same day. How quickly depends on how deep we went, and depth is set by what your skin needed rather than by a fixed setting.
Your skin is also unusually receptive right now, which cuts both ways. Anything you apply reaches further than it normally would. That is why the next few points matter more than they would after a facial.
Leave your face alone. No makeup, no touching with unwashed hands, no checking the texture in the mirror with your fingertips.
Keep it simple and keep it clean.

Some flaking or light peeling is normal in this window, and it does not happen to everyone. If it does, let it come away on its own. Picking at it interrupts the exact process you paid for and is the most common way people give themselves a mark that outlasts the treatment.
Skin can also feel drier than usual for a few days. That is expected. Answer it with moisture, not with exfoliation.
Makeup can go back on once the skin no longer feels raw. Use clean brushes. If you are unsure whether you are ready, you are probably a day early.
Less than you think, and nothing clever.
A plain gentle cleanser and a plain moisturizer will carry you through the first week. Hyaluronic acid is a reasonable addition if your skin feels tight, because it holds water without asking anything of the barrier.
The absorption advantage that makes microneedling so effective is the same reason this is not the week for experiments. A product that normally sits politely on the surface can reach living tissue now. Use things your skin already knows.
Everything active, for several days.
Bring your current routine to your appointment if you are unsure what is in it. Half the useful advice we give at a consultation is about what to stop, not what to start.
The word covers two depths of the same idea, and knowing which you had tells you how careful to be.
Microneedling works at depth. Fine needles create controlled micro injuries in the dermis, which triggers the body’s own repair cascade and lays down fresh collagen and elastin. This is what addresses acne scarring, structural texture, and lines that have set in. It asks more of your skin and it gives more back.
Nano works at the surface. It opens temporary channels through the outermost layer without the injury response, which is what makes it useful for driving product in and for brightening and hydrating. Gentler, quicker to settle, and better suited to skin that is not ready for the deeper work.
Our micro nano needling treatment is adjusted to your skin rather than run at one fixed setting, so the honest answer to which you had is whatever your skin could take on the day. Ask at your appointment and we will tell you exactly what was used and how long to wait.
Redness, tightness, mild swelling and light flaking are all normal. Call if you see something that is not on that list.
Specifically: spreading redness that gets worse rather than better after the first day, heat and tenderness that increases, any discharge, or a reaction that appears after you applied a product. None of these are common. All of them are easier to deal with early.

The brightness arrives within days. The structural change is slower, because collagen is laid down over weeks rather than hours. Judging the result the morning after is judging it before it has happened.
It depends on what you are treating. Surface concerns respond faster than deep scarring, which needs a course rather than a session. We set that at your consultation once we have seen your skin, and we would rather tell you it will take several visits than sell you one and let you feel short changed.
Not over an active breakout. Needling across inflamed skin risks spreading it. We would clear the congestion first, usually with an acne facial or a deep cleansing facial, and treat once the skin has calmed. If breakouts are your ongoing problem rather than an occasional one, why adult acne behaves differently is worth reading first.
Not in the same week. Both work by prompting repair, and stacking them does not accelerate anything, it just overloads the barrier. Spaced properly they complement each other well. Our chemical peel page explains what that treatment does differently.
Because turnover has been accelerated. Congestion that was already forming beneath the surface arrives sooner than it would have. It is temporary and it is not the treatment causing the breakout, it is the treatment revealing one on a faster schedule.
Keep it clean, keep it simple, keep your hands off it, and stay away from anything active for the first week. Skin that is left to repair delivers the full result. Skin that is scrubbed, picked at or layered with actives delivers part of it.
If you are considering treatment rather than recovering from one, book a consultation and we will tell you whether needling is the right route for your skin, or whether something should come first.
